Montecatini Terme, Italy

Montecatini Terme Italy

If you’re looking for an ideal Tuscan destination for a summer holiday then look no further than the ancient thermal spa-town of Montecatini Terme, Italy.

Nestled between the seaside tourist destination of Pisa and the equally tourist heavy romantic city of Florence – an easy commute by car, train or bus (approx 50 kms to each) – this town has a wealth of hotels, restaurants and festivals, making it an ideal holiday spot.

We indulged in a week-long stay at the impressive Hotel Montecatini Palace, spending our days poolside soaking up the Italian sun, with an occasional stroll into town for a spot of alfresco dining or exploring the historical baths and the surrounding parks. The town really comes to life in the evening (lots of live music, market stalls, even dancing in the street), you will be spoilt for choice with great local cuisines to suit all tastes and budgets.

Also worth trying is the funicular ride to the Alto, offering amazing views of the region as well as a good selection of restaurants (including a ‘Windows on the World’ restaurant perched on the hilltop edge), but be warned, make sure you don’t linger too late over drinks and miss the last train down the hill…it’s a bit of a walk down!

Here’s a few of our favourite memories. Definitely put Montecatini on your stopover travels through Tuscany. Ciao.
